The journey started with the opening of a non-formal school in a hut for the small and young children of murti makers residing in a cluster of huts in Sector 24, Rohini. They belong to a nomadic tribe of Rajasthan and no one of these families had ever gone to a school. The infants and the small children are looked after by the young girls of the family whereas the young children after attaining the age of 7 years are made to sell the idols. it was a formidable task to convince the leader of the community and other members about the benefits of education. The emphasis was on making the children learn 3 R's, personal hygiene, nutrition and health. The number of children grew up from a meager 5 to 60 in a span of 6 months. The Regular classes were scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm for various groups of children depending upon their availability.
